"Internet of Trees”. A sensorized forest plantation as an educational product
The Erasmus+ project "VirtualForests" also explores the Internet of Trees, connecting previously unconnected objects in forestry. By sensorizing a 13-hectare urban forest plantation, real-time data on tree behavior and survival was collected, demonstrating the feasibility of creating green areas in cities without extensive irrigation infrastructure. The project generated over 2 million records of temperature and humidity for 64 trees, serving as a valuable dataset for analysis. VirtualForests aims to create an educational toolkit for deploying an Internet of Trees example, integrating sensors, data networks, and forestry management data.
